A Smoked Maple Orange Old Fashioned! Last week I joined a group of Army wives to get started on making three hundred plus paper poppies for an upcoming Lewis Community Spouses Club Fundraiser celebrating 100 Years of Fort Lewis. My friend Tracy mentioned a drink she recently tried in a whiskey bar. It sounded interesting. I did a little research on it and decided to create a version for Sparkling Charm and for my sweetheart on Super Bowl Sunday.
Tracy, this one is for you!

Shout Out! Thank you Greg and Alison for the lovely Founding Father Double Old Fashioned Glasses. We use them all the time.

2 dashes of Scrappy’s Bitters
1 flamed orange disc, Click here to see a professional do this: LOL
2 ounces whiskey
splash of water, cold
culinary kitchen torch
Old Fashioned Glass
1 large whiskey ice-cube
2 Luxardo Cherries
Smoke your glass:
With the culinary kitchen torch, burn the center of your alder board until it starts to smoke. Cover the burnt area with an Old Fashioned glass.
Using the prepared/smoked Old Fashioned glass, add the maple syrup and Scrappy’s Bitters. Add the large whiskey ice-cube. Give it a stir. Add the whiskey and a splash of cold water. Stir gently.
Flame the Orange Peel:
Flame the orange peel tilting at a 45 degree angle (see video). Rub the peel around the rim of the glass and drop it in the cocktail.
Using a metal garnishing stick, slide a cherry on, the orange peel, then another cherry. Enjoy!
