Indulge in a Old Fashioned Easy Cherry Cobbler Recipe using canned cherries, cherry pie filling, frozen or fresh cherries. This easy recipe features a buttery crust and sweet cherries. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
1 1/2cupsfresh sour or sweet cherrieswashed and pitted (Substitute with a can of cherry pie filling or canned cherries.)
optional: 1/2 cup sanding sugar
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Place the unsalted butter in a cast iron skillet and melt over medium heat. Turn the heat off the very minute it is melted. (If you are using a baking dish, melt the butter in the dish while the oven heats.)
Add the sugar, self-rising flour, and cold milk in a medium mixing bowl. Stir until just combined.
Note: Just about 20 strokes will do it. Lumps are okay. Be careful not to over work the mixture.
Pour the mixture over the hot butter.
Sprinkle or spoon the fresh cherries, canned cherries, or cherry pie filling over the mixture.
Bake for 45 minutes.
