Below are a few frequently asked questions.
I am happy to answer any others. SayHello
Why did I start this blog? I once heard that you know you have a teacher’s heart when you want to share every single thing you know. I find myself constantly giving instructions to an imaginary audience while cooking or doing projects. My husband often catches me reviewing beauty products in the bathroom mirror and sometimes chatting about things I love to myself. When he asks me who I am talking to, I say, “Darling, these lovely people who have come to listen. Can’t you see them sitting there in front of me?” After years of this behavior and the encouragement of my husband and dear friends, I decided to create a notebook of things I could possibly share. After filling it cover to cover, I decided to bring my passion for sharing to life!
Where did I begin? I am a big believer of the saying, “You can do anything you put your mind to.” I also believe that it is absolutely true that you can figure out how to do anything on the internet. Who knew I could build a site using a Child Theme on Genesis framework? It has taken a year to learn what a widget is, as well as the differences between a post, a page, and a category, but here I am. I spend a couple of hours a week self teaching. This is definitely a work in progress.
PS If this is a dream of yours, I would be happy to share some favorite sites that helped get me started. I love to share after all!
“The neat thing about a personal blog is that you are 100% in control.
There are no deadlines or rush to do anything. The journey is part of the fun.” -Gwyn
My decorating style: I would have to say “classic homey vintage eclectic” if that is a style?! I tend to buy what I love without considering where I will put it or how it might work in a room. Things just somehow come together with a charming, yet “kick off your shoes and sit on down and stay awhile feel.”
Fashion Convictions: My personal style is a bit like my decorating. If I love it, I buy it. I am a believer in getting dressed everyday in something that makes me feel sparkly. If I don’t feel great in what I am wearing, it makes me uncomfortable all day long. I also believe in fixing my hair, putting on a little mascara and lipstick, and accessorizing.
“Darling shoes are a must! I sometimes wear them as house slippers while sipping my coffee.” -Gwyn
I may choose a pretty dress, my favorite jeans and a sweater, or leggings and a tunic- if I feel good in it, I can count on the SPARKLE FACTOR making my day shine.
“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” – Coco Chanel
Collections: I collect beautiful books, unique pieces of silver, new and vintage aprons, and interesting old kitchen tools.
What Camera do I choose for Stock Photos? I use the Cannon Rebel EOS along with the Cannon Speedlite Flash. I have small hands and this feels natural for me. I also use my iPhone and sometimes my Instax.
Favorite Kitchen Tool: I have two favorites. 1. My Kitchen Aide Mixer. She is a beautiful yellow and I call her Butter. 2. My cast iron skillet. It was given to me by my best friend Jenny. It belonged to her grandmother. It is over 80 yeas old. It is my secret to fantastic buttermilk cornbread and peach cobbler.
My favorite Crafting Tool: The Sillouhette cutter is hands down my favorite. I am not sure how I ever lived without it.
If I could have super powers: I would definitely like to be bionic, invisible, and a shape-shifter.
What is the majority winner in my iTunes? Christian, I love to sing to Jesus at the top of my lungs. …AND… Country! I “HEART” COUNTRY MUSIC!
Favorite Super Hero: Esther
Guilty Pleasure: Homemade Marshmallows!!!!!! I bag them and give them away immediately.
Best Organizational Tool: ERIN CONDREN CALENDAR! I am NUTS OVER IT! My husband calls it my coloring book. It is covered in stickers and washie tape.
Favorite Movie: While You Were Sleeping, The Proposal, and Hope Floats.
Favorite Movie Quote: “Dancin’ is just a conversation between two people, talk to me.” Harry Connick Jr. in Hope Floats
