Homemade Heart Shaped Bath Bombs

Homemade Heart Shaped Bath Bombs are “THE BOMB DEE-DA-BOMB” for those who love a relaxing bath.

Homemade Heart Shaped Bath Bombs

Today I am molding a batch of them into heart shapes for a few special friends on Valentine’s Day.

A X Five WIN!  While making these…

  1. Your hands will smell awesome!

  2. Your home will smell divine!

  3. Your spirit will be lifted from the essential oil therapy!

  4. Heart Shaped Bath Bombs are super fun to make!

  5. You are about to “Spread Some Sparkle and Charm” and make someone happy.

For the flavors I chose, see the notes at the bottom of the post.

FYI: There are many recipes for Bath Bombs on the internet. Some are not THE BOMB! They harden in place and have to be chipped out of the molds. I do not recommend doubling this recipe. I do recommend following the measurements in this recipe to precision and making them in batches. A bonus to batches, you can get extra creative with your colors and flavors. SMILE!

What you will need:

This Recipe makes 3 Heart Shaped Bath Bombs

Heart Shaped Molds

4 oz. baking soda

2 oz. corn starch

2 oz. citric acid

2 oz. Epsom salt

1 1/2 teaspoons of water (you may not need it all)

1 teaspoon essential oil(s)

1 1/4 teaspoons coconut oil, cooled

1 or 2 drops food coloring in a desired color (optional)

food scale

Directions:

Measure the ingredients precisely and add them to a medium size mixing bowl, combine the baking soda, corn starch, citric acid, and the Epsom salt. Whisk to remove any clumps. This is an important step. “Whisk-It Good!” Smile.

In a small bowl, add the water, the melted and cooled coconut oil, and the essential oil(s). Stir until well combined.

Slowly DRIZZLE the wet mixture into the dry mixture mixing as you go. If the mixture starts to get fizzy or foam you are adding the liquid mixture too fast.

Homemade Heart Shaped Bath BombsWhen the mixture is well combined, take a small amount in your hand and squeeze it together. It should stick together. If it is still powdery it will not hold together. In this case, SLOWLY add a little more water until your mixture “JUST”  sticks together.

Fill each half of your heart-shaped mold until it is overflowing. Press the mixture into the mold still letting it overflow just a little.

Snap the mold halves together.

Carefully remove one side of the mold and place the Homemade Heart Shaped Bath Bomb on a tray, mold side down. Let the Heart-Shaped Bath Bomb dry for 15 minutes.

Repeat process…

After fifteen minutes, starting with the first made, GENTLY invert the Heart Shaped Bath Bomb, so that the uncovered side is facing downward. GENTLY remove the other half of the mold from the top.

KEY WORD: GENTLY! If your Heart-Shaped Bath Bomb cracks while you are removing it. NO WORRIES! Simply toss it back in the bowl and start the molding process again.

When all of your Heart Shaped Bath Bombs are out of the molds. Let them air dry completely. Drying can take 8 to 12 hours.

When they are dry, wrap them in a cute packaging and deliver them to your friends.  Or, store them in a pretty jar in your bathroom and treat yourself when you need to relax.

A few more notes:

  1. You can get super creative with your flavors. In case you are wondering, I made a vanilla + peppermint (pink/pink and white), a vanilla + patchouli (yellow with candy hearts), and a vanilla + lavender (purple with dried lavender flowers).
  2. You can add dried flowers to these easily. Simply add them in the molds. I do recommend using a flower grown organically that has had no pesticides added. Soaking in pesticides is not a good idea.
  3. For two-tone bath bombs, make your mixture in two different bowls and only add your food coloring to one.
